DFTA VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION
Citymeals on Wheels provides a continuous lifeline of nourishing meals and vital companionship to nearly 20,000 homebound elderly New Yorkers. We have delivered over 3 million weekend, holiday, and emergency meals since the start of the pandemic. 100% of all public donations will be used entirely for the preparation and delivery of meals.
Citymeals on Wheels brings together volunteers across the city to donate their time to support socially isolated older adults. DFTA and Citymeals have partnered to provide Saturday volunteer opportunities at the Encore Community Services. This will be a monthly ongoing opportunity. Volunteers are required to prove that they have been vaccinated/or proof of a negative PCR test 3 days before volunteering.
Volunteers will check in with the Citymeals on Wheels contact upon arrival. Volunteers will be broken into pairs of 3 and given a list of 15-20 clients to deliver meals to. The package drop-offs are within walking distance of the center in Midtown Manhattan.
Tasks:
- Meal Delivery, delivering meals to homebound seniors within walking distance of the center.
Requirements:
- Volunteers will be given a brief orientation upon arrival.
- Volunteers must sign the code of conduct and the DFTA liability waiver
Time Commitment
- This volunteer commitment is a one-time commitment of three hours
COVID Requirements - Volunteers (with guest/s) must prove that they have been vaccinated/or proof of a negative PCR test 3 days before volunteering.
Upon arrival at the center, ALL volunteers (and guests) MUST SIGN-IN and provide proof of vaccination/or proof of a negative PCR test 3 days before volunteering. Volunteers must certify their status or test results by checking the box on the sign-in sheet, and the center staff will initial that you have provided this information. This is mandatory for your safety as well as staff and the meal recipients.
