Volunteer Opportunity – Aging Connect Call Center

Make a Meaningful Difference for Older New Yorkers

Aging Connect is the New York City Department for the Aging's information and resource contact center for older adults, caregivers, professionals, and community members. Every day, Aging Connect connects people with vital services, programs, and supports that help older adults live safely, independently, and with dignity in their communities.  The Call Center responds to approximately 600–900 calls each week, in addition to emails and online inquiries from individuals seeking assistance.

Aging Connect is seeking two volunteers to support our Call Center for a six-month commitment, July 13 through January 13, 3 days per week (Tuesday, Thursday, and/or Friday) for 5–7 hours per day between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

As an Aging Connect volunteer, you will:

  • Answer calls and respond to emails from older adults, caregivers, and community members seeking information and assistance.
  • Provide accurate information and referrals to community-based resources and programs.
  • Utilize our correspondence tracking system to document calls and refer complaints when appropriate.
  • Engage with callers in a compassionate, professional, and respectful manner.

All volunteers will receive comprehensive training during their first week of service, including orientation, training materials, and opportunities to shadow experienced Aging Connect staff before independently assisting callers.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with older adults and knowledge of aging services preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Compassion, patience, and a commitment to helping others.

As an Aging Connect volunteer, you will often be the first person someone turns to when they need help. Your support can connect an older adult to nutritious meals, transportation, caregiver support, benefits assistance, social engagement opportunities, or other essential services that improve their quality of life. You will help to strengthen Aging Connect's ability to respond efficiently to hundreds of New Yorkers each week as well as advance NYC Aging's mission to eliminate ageism and ensure the dignity, independence, and quality of life of older adults.

In addition to making a meaningful difference, volunteers will:

  • Build knowledge of aging services and community resources throughout New York City.
  • Develop customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Every conversation has the potential to change someone's day—and sometimes, their life. By volunteering with Aging Connect, you will help ensure that older adults and caregivers know where to turn and receive the support they need to remain healthy, connected, and independent.
