The Adopt-an-Older Adult Center program brings together community volunteers that want to support their local center by participating in various activities, including beautification projects, skills-based activities, and special events.

By Adopting an Older Adult Center, your company and employees contribute to improving the lives of our cherished elders while building a NYC that is more Age equitable and inclusive for all, that is our Community Care vision. Volunteer projects are designed to;

  • Create meaningful community-based supports and connections that combat social isolation and loneliness
  • Improve environmental spaces which can increase physical activity,
  • Improve overall well-being, and allow older adults to age in place.
  • Dispel ageism myths and improve multi-generational relationships in the workplace

Beautification Projects -Some of our older adult centers are in need of a refresh, and we welcome all corporate teams and volunteers to support this effort. Let's plant a garden or paint a dining hall or clean up the surrounding community. Older adults visit their local centers five times a week. Let's work together to make their spaces new again!

Skill- Based Activities - Many of the members of older adult centers are eager and interested to learn a new skill. Studies have shown that older adults who participate in cognitive activities such as yoga, dancing, or learning new skills have lower risk of Alzheimer's disease. If your team has some skills that they would like to share with our older adults, let us know and we will connect you to a local older adult center.

Special Events/Days of Service -Our older adult centers are always looking for extra hands to help their members enjoy the holiday season. For many of our older adults who do not have family, the older adult centers serve as a place to gather and celebrate. We welcome your team to get involved. You can commit to a one-day event or sign up for multiple events happening at your older adult center in your community.
