Volunteer: NYC Aging’s Healthy Aging Fair, “NYC: A Great Place to Age Well and Healthy”

Volunteers are needed for the day of the event to help older adults properly navigate the Health Fair and take advantage of all the screening, exhibits, and demonstrations. Volunteers will ensure the event runs smoothly.

Volunteer Tasks:  -Set up/break down of the event;  -Conduct registration and check in of vendors and older adult participants; -Hand out event maps, giveaways, and water; -Direct the flow of the event, helping older adults find specific vendors and understand the schedule. 

Skills:  -Ability to interact and communicate effectively with older adults and their caregivers -Attention to detail -Compassionate, patient, and energetic   -Bilingual is a plus (but not required) 

Training:   An orientation will be provided by NYC Aging

Friendly Visiting is a volunteer-based program that provides friendship and social engagement for older adults through one-on-one relationships.  We have opportunities in all 5 boroughs, based on where you live/work.  Some older adults want an in-person visit and others prefer telephone or video visits.  This is flexible, based on your preference as well.

 

We are seeking volunteers 18+ who want to make a difference in the life of an older adult.  We ask for a commitment of 6 months or longer, for one hour per week.

Volunteer Health Insurance Counselors Needed! About HIICAP Health Insurance Information, Counseling, and Assistance Program (HIICAP) provides free and nonbiased counseling to Medicare beneficiaries regarding all health coverage plans.  About The Volunteer Position: HIICAP counselors work directly with Medicare beneficiaries to educate them about Medicare and other related programs that are available to them. Counselors provide these services both in-person and over the phone. Volunteering takes place during regular business hours (Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM).  Becoming a HIICAP Volunteer: After responding to this opportunity, prospective volunteers will be contacted by NYC Aging staff to arrange an interview.  Prior to attending any orientation or training, volunteers will be required to complete a background check.  Volunteers will attend an orientation session.  Following orientation, volunteers will take part in counselor training 3 days per week for 2 weeks.  Skills Required: Computer skills: including internet searches, email, and Microsoft Office Professional and compassionate demeanor Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently Ability to work well with others from diverse backgrounds Ability to speak a language other than English is a plus, but not required. Time Commitment: Volunteers serve 2-3 times per week on consistent days and times (Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM). A three-month plus commitment after completing training is desired.

The KOT blood pressure monitoring program was designed to help older adults recognize and control their blood pressure readings by giving them a chance to have their blood pressure checked weekly in a comfortable and familiar setting located in their older adult center or program site.

Keep on Track volunteers follow color-coded protocols which were developed jointly by NYC Aging and the NYC Department of Health. Keep on Track volunteers use digital blood pressure monitors to measure and record participants' blood pressure readings. Counseling is also provided by volunteers to older adults when needed and it’s kept confidential.
